Some Fujitsu plasmas require that you send an RS-232 on command before the plasma will respond to any other commands. We have found it  most reliable to send that command before every power on command.  This way when power fluctuates (brown/black out), worst case scenario for the homeowner is they will have to turn the room off and back on in order to regain control of the display.
